My work centers around self-portraiture as a way to explore identity, the loss and evolution of identity, the passage of time, and the impermanence of self. Because we are ever-changing beings, my photographs are process-oriented and intentionally evolve over time to reflect this fluidity. I continuously manipulate and reiterate these images, morphing them into increasingly abstract forms in order to capture the convoluted, shifting nature of selfhood. In doing so, I question: What even is a self-portrait?

As we change every day, each self-portrait becomes less a representation of who I am now and more a relic of a person I once was. Nothing can fully capture the "present" self, because by the time the photo exists, I have already changed. By abstracting my images through time-intensive processes, I aim to reveal how distant I feel from my past selves, and to highlight how constantly we all are evolving.

Perhaps, then, there is no such thing as a true self-portrait—only records of the people we used to be. These are not photos of who I am, but of a girl I once knew.
